Makeover Makeup

About a month ago I was seriously bored and having nothing to cheer me up with I ended up buying a magazine. Not just any magazine, the absolutely worst choice one could ever make with its shortcuts to mind-blowing sex and ten ways to tell if he’s really into you. Yes – it was Cosmopolitan. Despite my boredom the magazine was still crap but I got myself a pretty good deal on some makeup brushes and a mascara from a new Swedish brand called The Studio. Originally it is one of those makeover companies which now also has a makeup brand. I have heard nothing about it but besides getting five more Cosmo’s it was really cheap and definitely worth trying.

Going back to school is taking more out of me than I had expected and this has left me with little time and lot’s of guilt for not blogging. It’s not really fair to only blame school, there is the delivery of my iPhone as well. Since I’ve stopped shopping for some time I’m experiencing some abstinence which sometimes mean buying way to much food at the grocery store, watching others shop on TV and sometimes I go through all the web-shops I know. Today I’ve been watching Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style in which he has a list of ten basics every woman should have in her closet, they are;

Grass Widow

My boyfriend is out of town for a few days and I’m planning on spoiling myself. Living together these short trips of his are luxury for me. So for tonight I have a waxing planned, I will fix my feet and hands with pedicure and manicure. Finally I will give my hair some extra care with “Biolage Vital Repair Color Care Treatment” and my face some tan from a can-color. And best of all, the grand finale, I get the whole bed to myself, plenty of space, no snoring and no blanket-steals.

Last Sunday a new season of Desperate Housewives started and as always I visited their webpage in order to test which housewife I am. Usually I end up being Susan, sometimes I’ve gotten Lynette but this time I ended up as Gabrielle. The answer I always hope to get but never do achieve is Bree. A few months back I bought Dermalogicas exfoliant which is so mild that it can be used on a daily basis. I can’t say I really want to use it every day, both because I don’t really need to and also I think my skin gets a bit dry from it, especially now when fall is coming and the air is getting dryer. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like it, using it every third day is just about enough for my skin, it keeps my pores nice and clean and break-outs to a minimum.

Well not all weekend since I’m working it’s more like evenings on the couch and tonight I will be sharing my living room with a prince. Another Depend color for my nails was tried, this is no. 115. Last time I wrote about a nail-polish it was a god-awful color but it was one of the few which did ok with only one coating. This one is a deep purple that sometimes almost looks black it is a wonderful autumn color but it took me forever to get it on. I can admit it wasn’t my best day for painting my nails and it got quite messy in the end but on some fingers I needed three layers, on a good day it would only have been two.

I finally got my charger and my computer is once again useable and I’m thrilled! Anyway, during this forced break from my blog I one day decided to retry the green look from last week without chickening out. So going all in this is the result, personally I liked it but putting all that makeup on at 11 a.m. on a Tuesday might not have been really appropriate. Walking my dog e few hours later I got quite a few stares but I will definitely try it on a night out instead, that will probably be more fitting.

Last week when passing by the hair-outlet I asked for help in getting a shine-spray for my hair. The woman working there directly went to one of the shelves, got a hairspray and told me this was all customers favorite. It was the Masterpiece Massive Shine Hairspray from TIGI. I have to say the shine part wasn’t so visible but there is massive hold to it, which is great, I feel like I get “the Nanny”-hairdo whenever I use it. Anyway, even better than the hold is the wonderful smell, I don’t need any perfume my hair smells good and makes all of me smell great.

Since I got my new palette yesterday I couldn’t stop myself from playing around a bit today, this resulted in an eye that looked beaten-up and some lost study-time. I hardly ever use bright colors for my eyes so this was quite a challenge and I would have to say I definitely need more practice.

This was just some playing around so I haven’t got any other makeup on, not even my brows are there so there really is no point in letting you see my whole face, after all this is a beauty blog. Well, these are the colors from the 78 palette I used in case you want get it better than me.

The saddest thing about the technology improving all the time is that you somehow need to modernize the dreams you had as a girl. One of those dreams was the creating, giving and receiving of a romantic mixed-tape. Even if I were to get one now I couldn’t listen to it cause I lack the appropriate technology. But thanks to “Spotify” this is now even faster and easier to make and give away, so today I created a playlist in tribute of my younger days and sent it to my boyfriend.

Old Favorite in New Packaging

Actually the new packaging isn’t so new anymore, but since I found a long lost one today I started thinking of how pretty it is. This is my absolute favorite cerate and I was thrilled to find it now when fall is on its way bringing that terrible dry skin. This particular cerate makes me think of my grandfather who was in the Swedish military during a time when taking this kind of stuff home wasn’t an issue, even if it was to give away to family and friends. Well, now I won’t have to worry about my lips falling to pieces from being dry.

Receiving a Gift

Today I believe I will get a present from myself, well actually four. I made an order from eleven.se on Sunday evening and it is already on its way. That is fantastic, it’s my first order from them and I did not expect it to be arriving yet. Anyway, the order consists of some heated rollers for my hair, a palette with 78 eye-shadows and blushes which I’m not really sure about the quality but I figured I can use it to try out different looks and see whether I need new colors. Also there are two powder-puffs from “Eco Tools” and fourth but not last a heat protector for my hair by Revlon. I can’t wait for it all to get here!

I tried a new look today, I tried doing my makeup like Linda Evangelista, I did not do so well. I ended up looking very “makeuped” but without actually managing the whole 90’s supermodel look. I didn’t actually think I would come out looking like her but sometimes I think it’s fun to try on icon-celebrities makeup.

Since writing that I don’t like to use my MAC #190 when applying Chanel’s Pro Lumière I’ve had to prove myself wrong and after some time now I finally have. Lately I’ve forced myself to use it whenever applying my foundation and now I have figured out the right technique. It really needs to be patted on more than stroked at least if I want it to work for my skin, and the coverage! Seriously, I hardly need to use concealer anymore. Anyway, I just wanted to admit my mistake and make an honest woman out of me.

My very favorite book on makeup is “Making Faces” by Kevin Aucoin. He is a master in the art of makeup and it doesn’t matter whether I need inspiration for how to look or I just want to relax my eyes this is the book I turn to. He starts of really basic, goes on to certain looks, pictures makeovers on regular people and ends up with famous celebrity looks. He encourages the reader to try, experiment and play with ones makeup. Like Coco Chanel puts it “There are no ugly women in the world, just lazy ones”.

One thing really great about working in the weekend are the hilarious walk’s of shame you see. Broken-off high-heels, running makeup and usually way to little clothes. At least one of those things are now forever only a filthy memory for anybody who likes to spend the night away from home. Too Faced now has a kit for these special occasions called just “Walk of Shame” including both face- and eye-primer, two eye-shadows, a bronzer, a lipstick, some mints, a toothbrush and a cute little satin-bag to keep it all in. A rather crazy color which makes me look really unhealthy; it is Depend no. 195. Need I say more, I hate it. I’ve even tried giving it a chance by keeping it on for a couple of days but enough is enough. The only good thing about this awful color is that it is one of the few nail-polishes from Depend which can be done in one layer.

Today I finally got myself away to H&M’s denim days only to realize there are no jeans interesting enough to get me to try them on. But it wasn’t all for nothing, I got some new shirts, really basic but still nice. On my way home though I accidentally passed by a hairdresser outlet and couldn’t keep myself out of there. It all ended with more products than what there is room for in the bathroom, but the most important thing is the Revlon, Nutri Color Creme which I’m addicted to since my red hair-color easily fades otherwise.

Another day spent mostly in the comfort of my home, which resulted in my hair spending some time rolled up on top of my head. I really love having my hair this way, and besides being time-consuming it’s quite easy. Just remember that the higher up you put the rolls the more volume you get. And after letting your hair down you use a cylindrical hairbrush in order to get rid of the separation and viola. I think I will get the heated kind of rolls to make the process a bit faster. The curls will stick for a day and the next day I just put it in big handmade rolls with hairpins while I make myself ready.

I’ve never actually tried or owned a pair of H&M-jeans but that might just change since the price is right I will just have to see whether they fit me. Yesterday I got advised to get the “Mendeley” software in order to organize my articles which usually pile up during thesis periods. Anyway I downloaded it and it seems great, like iTunes but for PDF’s and I haven’t even figured out how to work all the features. The best thing about it is that it’s free, I wish I could get the same kind of software to organize my books in lists.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner Review

I love, admire and adore Bobbi Brown’s Gel eyeliner, it has a great consistency which makes it go on rather smoothly. It seems to stay put forever without any transfer marks elsewhere. But as I mentioned before the Bobbi Brown brush I got for it isn’t quite perfect, after some training it is definitely better but I’m not in total bliss over it. Also, it is too long and since I like standing really close to the mirror while painting the eyeliner I keep bumping it into the mirror which usually results in color where I don’t want it. Well, this review is for the actual eyeliner and not the brush and I have no complaints what so ever with the eyeliner.

Depend Glitter-Granite

I tried a new nail-polish from Depend, no. 104, it’s a dark sort of granite kind of color with glitter in it. Usually I don’t like glitter on my nails since it easily looks white-trash, but this combo really works for some reason. Probably it is due to the rather discrete glitter and the very dark color. It differentiates it from white-trash glitter and keeps far away from goth-black. As usual though the Depend nail-polishes aren’t really that durable, but I keep buying them since they are really cheap and you can get a large range of colors.

All the CO2-emissions data is now gathered and for this I gave myself a wonderful break in the sun with some Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Macadamia. A Really Boring Day

Last week I was seriously bored and ended up visiting one of my favorite makeup-video blogs. Their latest video was on contouring and I decided to follow and the results was rather scary. Besides the fact that I overdid it quite a bit and ended up looking dirty the effect I actually managed to get makes me look rather sick. I finally found a subject for my thesis, although I haven’t yet discussed it with my tutor. I figured I better make sure all the data I will need is available and decide what delimitations I should have. The subject is the Environmental Kuznets Curve of carbon dioxide and I intend to see if I can find any proof of its existence. Anyway the picture shows what I’m doing at the moment, so far it has been one day of putting in data and I’m expecting to do this for at least another day…

…I’ve been absent. I apologize and put all of the blame on my job and all the negative energy I receive from there. Besides working I suffered from some kind of temporary insanity last Friday, I made 16 hi hat cup-cakes, 36 muffins both blueberry and apple and some meringues. After that I haven’t quite been myself, not only did all that baking totally drain me all that sugar sort of put me in a coma. I probably won’t be baking for some time now and I should definitely start focusing on the yoga again.

Chanel’s Pro Lumière Review

I really liked the Vitalumière from Chanel that I’ve been using for some time now and the Pro Lumière is quite similar in many aspects. It is still for dry skin and it’s a liquid kind of foundation but this one is a bit creamier in texture, it takes a bit longer and some more effort to get it on and in. In order to do so you really need to use your hands for the application, I tried using my MAC brush 190 but it took me way too long, it seems you need the warmth of your hand for it to get in there. The best part about it is that it has a bit more coverage than the Vitalumière which feels great now when fall is here and my skin is getting duller by the minute and also I have an acne explosion that I prefer to keep covered. So this one is definitely a winner, I love it endlessly!

School’s back on!

Yep, today I’ve spent the morning studying, I even impressed myself. The afternoon I spent drinking coffee with some friends and several dogs, but the most impressing thing is that coming back from my extensive coffee-break I studied some more. Oh, I also got some notepads and pens, I love that about starting school, except for the fact that the pads I want is the kind without lines or squares, just plain white paper. I don’t seem to be in majority with that choice and therefore I also don’t get so many to choose from.

Elizabeth Arden Advanced Eye-Fix Primer Review

Another kind of primer which is the first I’ve ever tried is Elizabeth Arden’s Eye-Fix Primer. Here as well as with most primers it’s really important to take very, very little if you don’t want to get the opposite effect. That is creasing in the globeline and eyeshadows that don’t stick but just gets smudged and ugly. But if you don’t take too much it works really well. I’m not noticing the eyeshadows becoming stronger in pigment or anything like that but they do seem to stick for a longer time than otherwise.But I would still like to try the “Eyeshadow Primer Potion” by Urban Decay, but considering how little you need that might take me like a decade or so

Yesterday I accidentally stumbled upon Stadium and went in to see if I could find some pants for yoga. I did not find the once I was looking for but I found another pair which had a good price and a nice fit. They where rather basic but one thing I really appreciated about them was the adjustable waist. And as usual when shopping I find it unnecessary to only buy one thing so I found a cheap top as well, that to very basic but also very functional.This all resulted in an urge to work out when I got home despite the severe pain I was in.

Today the plan is to get some organizing done in the attic. My storage-room there is a bloody chaos and I’ve been planning on taking care of it ever since we moved here, that is over two years ago. And while I’m at it I might just take a minute to play Rapunzel and dream about a prince on a white horse who climbs up my hair and rescues me from all the organizing… Seriously who comes up with these stories and why do girls dream of being in them? Why not focus on the part when she sits still for years with her hair outside the window, which little girl would envy that life?

One seriously worthless product that unfortunately has had some great marketing. When I first saw the ad for Depends Eyebrow Designer I thought it was an insanely brilliant idea. Maybe it was but it was an horrible product which only gave me spots of color on my brows and that was only if I pushed hard enough which also gave me red marks. I tried it a couple of times thinking I had the wrong technique but it never got any better.

Remembering My Childhood

Soon “Dynasty” comes on TV again, I can’t help myself from switching the channel, it seems like it just happens automatically. I remember watching it as a child and I used to love Krystal I thought she was the most beautiful woman ever and I liked that she was always so kind to everybody. Now, I absolutely adore Alexis, if there was ever a bad girl worth digging in any soap she is definitely the one. That is one stunning looking woman with a makeup that is beyond great, and way beyond mediocre.

The Organized Makeup

Here is the result from last weekend’s organizing-frenzy. It made everything easy to find and use, instead of digging around in a makeup bag everything was visible and easily accessible. The only downside is that in comparison to all the makeup organization movies I watched my collection seems to be quite small, probably you can’t even call it a collection. Also there was no room for my foundations in the drawers since I wanted them standing up, so they are still standing in my bathroom cabinet. But on the other hand there was room for my nail-polishes and other stuff like that so I still managed to make more room in the bathroom.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Review

This is the first primer I’ve ever used, so this will not be a comparison with any other brand and from what I understand from the reviews I read before purchasing the Smashbox Primer it is so superior that that would not make any sense. I love the texture, it goes on smoothly and sets easily and most importantly it takes away the shiny forehead I sometimes get from using foundation just be careful and wait for your moisturizer to be absorbed before putting it on. I use it before foundation or even if I’m not using foundation just as a base for my blush and concealer. The one thing you really need to be careful with when applying it is do not overuse it, that will only make it worse. Just put on a thin layer and really work it out, if you don’t it counteracts itself and your skin will get shiny within the hour. That might take some practice, it did for me but it really is one of those things I wouldn’t want to be without. I would say you should use a primer if your makeup is supposed to sit for more than a couple of hours, it really makes all the difference.

Another busy day which totally knocked me over, but I did good, in all areas except for the thesis-subject. So now I’m having a luxurious and lazy Monday evening. Most of the laundry has been folded and put away, I managed to get some yoga done and last but not least I did excellent in the opening of a bottle which resulted in the extraordinarily good glass of wine I’m sipping on at the moment in front of an old classic movie – Seven.

Well, I’m on my seventh load of laundry now, after this I only have one more to go, after that I think I might do some yoga which hopefully will get me centered and focused enough to get an idea of what I want to do this term.

After a weekend of organizing and fixing everything around me I have decided to start taking care of the thesis subject. I haven’t decided if I should do a theoretical study which then probably would be on economic growth and the environment. Or I will write a more mathematical thesis which probably would be better but I don’t have a subject there that I find interesting and I really don’t want to do an interview–study of any form. Please, pretty please give me some suggestions!

While watching a movie I like having something to do with my hands like crosswords (but that might fuck up my concentration), knitting or doing my nails. Today I did my nails, they got some Trind, two layers of a rather shrill pinkish tone called 167 from Depend, and on top of that a top coat layer. Besides that I filed and moisturized, I’m now really happy with the results and the fact that my nails are getting both longer and stronger. Oh, and by the way, the movie totally rocked, I would recommend it to anyone who likes music, so that’s pretty much everybody!

I finally got off my ass, took care of the kitchen and I even managed to get my shit together for long enough to get some dinner on the table. It wasn’t exactly a culinary experience but it was pretty ok anyway. Now I’m back in the couch and I believe there will be a movie showing in front of me shortly, I’m going to see “Pirate Radio” with Philip Seymour Hoffman, he's one of my favorites. But there won’t be any candy since there sort of is an agreement to get healthier between me and my boyfriend.

In order to get some order in my makeup-bag I was searching the net for ideas and I came across some palettes. The first one I found is called the Z palette and is available in two sizes in black, pink, zebra and leopard. The other one I found is called UNII palette and comes in one size in pomegranate, twilight, lemongrass, eggplant and snow. And obviously there is the classic MAC palette as well which comes in three different sizes. But I can’t really decide if I would really like to depot all of my eye-shadows like that, it definitely takes some thinking.

I’ve actually done it, my closet is finally cleaned out and everything is folded and organized, for the first time in years I know what clothes I own. I found stuff in there which should never ever be in anybody’s closet. Since that is done I’ve been looking through the IKEA website for storage for my makeup… So, far I haven’t found anything which seems to be perfect. Obviously I would love the bag from the picture! Actually I find organizing rather entertaining it just takes me a while before I get to it, but I managed to organize all my jewelry as well today.

A just met a really rare specimen of humanity at least they are rarely seen in the colonized areas, they usually thrive in small towns or trailer-parks. I went in to a hair-saloon around the corner from me to buy me some OSIS+ “Dust It”, in there I found a woman in her fifties who spend way too much time in a tanning-booth which has given her a leathery skin. Do you ever tell yourself over and over that you will do a certain thing any day? I have been telling myself that all summer about yoga, the subject for my new thesis and now it’s about organizing. I really need to get back to working out, I can’t even blame cigarettes any more. School starts on Wednesday and then I’m supposed to have a plan on what to write about, all I know is that I want it to be on the environment. And after cleaning out my underwear drawer I feel a need to clean out all the other crap I have lying around and organizing the rest of it where it’s easy to find but not in my face. Nightmares are awful, but at least they aren’t real and they are nothing like morningmares. I had one this morning and they can destroy an otherwise perfect day. When I wake up the first thing I do is putting on a pot of coffee, I do it before I even use the bathroom. This morning I filled up the pt with water and when reaching for the coffee-beans I get a bad feeling which gets even worse when opening the jar, I’m dead out of coffee. Now I have to wait for the store to open before I can get a proper cup of coffee and in the meantime I have to settle with a Nespresso-coffee.

Do you know how you one day wake up and realize that it’s way too late to put on a bikini. You might get away with wearing jeans and sandals but what you really want is an oversized knitted cardigan, a bowl of popcorn and a new movie, preferably there is also a fireplace to curl up in front of. Unfortunately that morning came to me last week while at my parents place and now it doesn’t matter how much I try telling myself that it still hasn’t happen in the south of Sweden. A while back I wrote about a new blush called “Glam Rose” by Make Up Store which I thought would be perfect for me. God I hate myself sometimes, I should learn to ask for some help from time to time I was dead wrong. Anyway I tried giving it to my mom with no luck so it will stay buried underneath all my other makeup. Yesterday I went looking for another pink blush, this time I tried finding one with hardly any pink pigments and I ended up with “Sugar Muffin” also from Make Up Store. This one I could actually wear but it takes some getting used to since I normally wear their “Passion” which is more peach-toned.

In fact the shopping I did yesterday included a retro dress, but I find it kind of hard finding the type of clothes I like. I’ve tried going to second-hand stores but I find the smell is often awful there and usually the clothes aren’t what I want, accessories on the other hand is great to shop second-hand. Anyway I was searching the net for retro fashion and I found this Swedish webpage who sew and sell beautiful dresses, skirts and tops. I’m thinking about putting in an order for the dress called “Flamingo Rising”.

When I woke up this morning I felt a childish kind of buzz in my stomach, like today is a special day, something I’ve been waiting for. Today is the day where I get to try on Chanel’s Pro Lumière. It is one of those things you read about, it is supposed to be so great, most people who use it l say they can’t live without it. It has been said to be the one makeup piece one has got to get it is Make Up Stores “Cover All Mix”. Half a year ago I bought it thinking it would be all that and soon realized it really didn’t do it for me. The idea is great, really great, the red to cover my blue, the yellow to cover my red and the beige to mix the two previous once into the right color. For me the problem is that the makeup soon becomes flaky, it looks like dandruff underneath my eyes and frankly I would rather have my dark circles. I tried using it mixed up with my foundation instead of mixing with the beige color which made it work much better, no flakyness and no dark circles but I still think I’ll buy another concealer next time.

After running around chasing a great deal (which I got) I feel so tired, I could fall asleep at the spot. Actually I found some good deals, I am especially happy with the Pro Lumière foundation from Chanel which I’ve been longing for. Besides that I got myself some new underwear, basic panties which lead me to clean out my underwear-drawer and arrange everything in it into some kind of order. Quite liberating too get rid of all the panties I never use, and the bra’s I haven’t been able to fill for years. Maybe I’ll do my whole closet tomorrow… or some other day?! It might be liberating but it is still hard to separate from old goodies.

Remembering a Different Time

Since my days are rather lonely without much to de, besides from yesterday that is, I’m developing a TV habit that can’t be healthy. I literarily spend my whole day sitting in the couch in front of the TV, I do my makeup, eat my breakfast, drink my coffee and write in my blog here. Right now I’m watching re-runs of Beverly Hills 90210, not the greatest show but it has one thing special. It has Dylan McKay, oh how he broke teenage-hearts in the nineties. He was even a role-model for the boys at that time who learned his ways and made him break even more hearts by extension. So for about an hour a day I get to feel like a broken-hearted teen again which makes 28 seem a lot more interesting.

After my Trind bargain at the Freeport outlet I’ve been keeping up the nail-treatment where new Trind Nail Repair is to be put on every two days. After that you only need to renew it once a week in order to keep your nails strong and healthy. I tried it first about a year ago and was shocked on how well it worked, my nails has never been as strong before. Unfortunately after a while I forget about putting it on and the treatment has to start all over again, but I keep telling myself that it will be different this time around. The only downside to Trind is the sharp smell, my guess is that it is due to the formaldehyde, but it is worth it with those results. I'm afraid I'm afraid I can only review the ”Nail Repair”, but as soon as I can afford the whole series I’ll get back to you on that.

Dinner is Served

It was a spectacular dish which had a spectacular chef. I look dashing in my high-waist jeans, my white blouse tied around my waist, the white pearls around my neck and in my ears and the wonderfully curled hair and flawless makeup. Well, to be honest that’s not really true. The food was great, a bit too great my stomach is swollen and the jeans are hurting my waist in combination with the bustier it feels like somebody is pinching my love-handles. And the total of four hours spent cooking has kind of made my makeup fade and given me a shiny forehead, the heat also made my hair a bit frizzy and separated the curls. I can’t say I’ll do this again tomorrow but maybe one day in the future. Now I’ll kick these jeans off and grab me a big bite of the cake.

Might be Busy but I’m Still Lonely

I realized being a housewife is rather lonely, at least if you don’t have kids and the dog really doesn’t count since he has showed absolutely no interest in my doings (except for when I was cutting the chicken that is). In the making of the cake which had rum in it I decided some could also go into a strawberry-mango daiquiri which made the whole baking experience a whole lot more fun. This has brought me to really understand Sue-Ellen’s position in the TV-show Dallas. Well, it is my vacation so it doesn’t really matter if I get a bit tipsy and there is obviously supposed to be wine in the coq au vin.

I rarely do things half-way actually I usually over-do things instead, often getting a bit obsessed when deciding on a new project. The project I decided on yesterday is no exception, besides cooking Julia Childs coq au vin I decided to make one of her desserts as well. So I got myself a digital copy of her book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and I found a chocolate and almond cake called “Reine de Saba” (Queen of Sheba) which I have decided to try as well. It turned out to be a rather great day for a fifties housewife theme since the rain is pouring down and there is a storm warning for this afternoon.

Coming home from my parents I found some nice surprises while entering my apartment. For once the mail waiting for me wasn’t bills it was membership discounts from various chains. One of them gives me 20 % off on beauty-products, the plan is to spend it on the Pro Lumière foundation from Chanel. All I have to do is wait for my salary to arrive so I can pay the other 80 %. Right now I use Chanel’s Vitalumière but I find it easily gives me a shiny forehead if the weather is warm, the Pro Lumière isn’t quite so oily and it also has a bit more coverage.

Diorshow Iconic Review

In search of a great mascara I’ve been told to try the Diorshow Iconic which I did. I have to say it does wonders for the length of my eyelashes, and it keeps my eyelashes bent all day. In short my eyelashes looks fantastic all day with it, but in warm weather I sometimes get rub-offs underneath my eyes. When using the Estée Lauder Lash Primer Plus that does not happen so it is an easily fixed problem, but considering the price I would rather not have that problem at all. It is definitely usable but I might try another lash extending mascara next time, unless I buy the waterproof one.I can’t give it a three since it really opens up my eyes but a five would be too much since it’s not perfect which the price really does indicate, therefore...

Painfully Smooth

For the first time ever I waxed my legs, lorrrrrd did it hurt!! To be honest thinking of it is probably more painful than the actual experience was. Unfortunately waxing only seemed to remove my thicker hairs and leave the thin blond hair behind, not a big deal I suppose since they aren’t really that visible but I felt cheated on the smooth feeling I was expecting. I ended up shaving of the hairs that was left and since they were so thin they didn’t really feel so rough growing out either. Honestly, I kind of liked it and the pain was manageable and even a bit therapeutic.

About a year ago I got a gift from a friend, it was a body lotion called Love Spell from Victoria’s Secret. It has a rather heavy smell of cherry blossom, peach, and white jasmine which you don’t really want to mix with anything else, but it is fantastic on its own. Unfortunately I finished it yesterday and I need to go shopping for a new one, well actually I was planning on buying two, one to replace Love Spell and another one which smells a bit more discrete as not to interfere with my DKNY Green Apple. Any suggestions?

I do most of my studying in my apartment and in order to get it done I have a “get dressed” rule, that is I have to get dressed as if I’m going to school. If I don’t do this I usually end up spending my days watching day-time TV, like “the Bold and the Beautiful” or “Days of our Lives”. It must be some kind of mental block I have. Anyway my favorite type of clothing during these days is leggings with a big shirt, I’ve come to love leggings because you can use it at any time with anything BESIDES, and this is important. You never ever EVER use a shirt short enough to show your crutch, worst case scenario you have a camel-toe and at best you look like a trailer-trash mom. It is just not ok!

A few weeks back I bought the M Magazine from Make Up Store, the first out of two from 2010. It’s really interesting and inspirational even though most of it isn’t exactly wearable. BUT, this issue actually contains a section on fifties makeup and a “life is a bitch” section with fifties inspired makeup styles. And the best part about the magazine is that you don’t actually have to buy it, you can read it for free online, or download a pdf-file if you want to save it to your computer. I will still buy it since I’m not a fan of reading on my computer, I just keep falling asleep.

While back home I caught a cold from my sister’s son and this made me pity myself a whole lot… or maybe I just needed an excuse to go shopping?! Anyway today I managed to get my ass away from home and to the mall and since the summer sale is almost over all that was left was half, half off. This made me buy some new underwear in the style of a fifties woman. Well, the bra wasn’t as pointy as they where back then, but I got some panties that go up way above my bellybutton and with garters. My boyfriend’s reaction on my new underwear was that they looked kind of large, I’m not sure whether he meant the actual size or if it was the model.

Total Eye Care Review

As you might remember I bought some Dermalogica products a few weeks back, among them was the Total Eye Care cream. This one is supposed to do it all, it takes away fine lines, it removes dark circles and at the same time it protects and repairs the eye area. I mean seriously, who would ever need anything other than that?! Besides this they claim it reduces puffiness, restores translucency and freshness and also it has an SPF of 15. I was excited when I read about it, I almost pissed my pants when it was delivered and to be honest I wouldn’t ever want to live without it! It is everything they promise and more than I could ever have hoped for. After a hormonal shock which made me cry for hours I woke up puffier than you could imagine, ten minutes after putting it on I looked just fine. The dark circles are definitely reduced and my so called fine lines does seem to show less.

A few years ago I heard about the wonders of Hemp-oil, at first I thought this was just a way to justify the marijuana-smokers habit and didn’t give it much thought until I found hemp-products at the Body Shop. And soon I found myself owning a jar of body butter made from hemp. It turned out being fantastic on the kind of dry spots one gets during winter, and now I was thinking I might also get some Hemp Lip Protector since I can’t seem to get my lips moisturized enough. Actually if I could afford it I would probably buy the whole series, or maybe somebody could buy me a gift basket.

36 Hours Spent on a Train

Since going home is kind of time-consuming for me I usually have plenty of stuff with me in order to keep myself entertained on the train. This time it was Super Mario World, some crosswords, a book about serial offenders, some magazines, some movies and the third season of Mad Men. Obviously I realize I can’t possibly do all of this but I like having options. I spent most of my time reading and playing video-games but I also managed to see a movie and one episode of Mad Men. Besides the fact that I really like the show I’m also fascinated with their clothes, hair styles and make up. I believe I can use the show as my inspiration in the coming fifties-transfer I’ve been planning.

I rarely get my juices flowing when the great designers presents their new lines, at best I get some inspiration but usually I find it all to be a bit to modern for me. This prefall collection from Louis Vuitton is definitely different, the big skirts with high and defined waists combined with the beautiful décolletages and everything else about the clothes just makes me fall love. I can’t help whishing there was even a slight possibility that I will one day own just one of those dresses. But for now I have to settle with the dreaming and looking at pictures of the collection.

As usual when I go back home I have a field day making inventory of my mother´s hair products. She really likes volume for her hair and often goes shopping for new products. This time I found what I believe to be a OSIS+ Dust It copy called 4R Hair Powder. Since I´ve never tried Dust It myself I can´t really compare them but I was really happy with the Hair Powder which was sprayed in to the scalp. It gave me great texture and actually delayed the washing of my hair with a couple of days. My mother actually had gone bananas with the 4R brand after finding this web page where it was reasonably priced.

Today was hard on me, besides working a full day which means coming home around 8 p.m. I had to go grocery shopping, cook dinner, color my hair (red fades awfully fast) and on top of all that at 10 p.m. I put my dog in the shower. After nearly an hour of trying to get his fur really wet and eventually clean the process of drying him begun. About half an hour ago I gave up, even though he still isn’t dry, I poured myself a glass of wine and for the first time today I’m sitting down. Tomorrow I will probably not see sitting down as a luxury since I will be on the train sitting for about 19 hours, apparently it’s not possible to book a bed when traveling with a dog. I still haven’t packed but that will have to wait until the morning, the wine is getting to me and I desperately need to get some sleep.

A Late Reward

A few years ago I discovered THE perfume for me it was Donna Karen New York, Be Delicious Green Apple. I ever did do buy it, it just seemed like such a waste to pay all that money and one hour after application I would still smell like cigarettes. I’ve used the same logic for 15 years and during this time I’ve never really used any perfume. I figured that the only thing worse than the smell of cigarettes on me is the smell of too much perfume in a failed attempt to hide the smell of cigarettes. Anyway, about two weeks ago I had lunch with a friend of mine and we stopped by Kicks where we started smelling the perfumes and so on. After a while I see DKNY, the green apple and I realize that all the reasons I’ve ever had not to indulge in it no longer exists! It was the best reward I could have given myself, for the past two weeks as soon as I’ve felt the awful smell of cigarettes I’ve smelled myself and my new perfume and it has made it all seem like it is worth it.

…with my new, not so needed mascara from Estée Lauder, I’m totally sold. I think I might like it even better than the Iconic one from Dior, and best of all, they work well together for an extra special night. I can really recommend them both, depending on the effect you want. The brush from the sumptuous mascara looks quite scary at first glance, well actually at the second one too, but it works wonders for my lashes and its waterproof, which I really like during the summer time when the humidity can make the best of makeup look cheap.

It’s Gonna be a Celebration

About two weeks ago my father turned 50, but I haven’t been able to properly congratulate him since we live about 150 Swedish miles away from each other. But this weekend I will surprise him and the rest of my family showing up on his party! I’m so excited, even though the trip there will be by train and take about 20 hours. The other day I surprised myself with several old-school video games, the type I used to play as a child with NES and SNES machines. My favorite games at the time was everything Super Mario. I totally adored those games and could sit for hours. These days I hardly ever take the time to play any kind of video game and I believe the reason is they all became too complex. I really enjoy playing in 2D, I want a limited number of options and I really don’t want to be able to go back, a passed chance is not coming back.

As it turned out I got some extra money just in time for my day off. I hit the stores immediately after breakfast and one hour later I had managed to spend it all. The logic I use when shopping is quite bizarre and I came home with much more than intended, which was two blushes from Make Up Store called “Sand” and “Glam Rose”. Sand is for contouring on my rather pale skin and Glam Rose is a kind of pale pink but not like baby pink. I tried to get a color that was similar to my lip color, and I think I managed to do so. The really odd thing I brought home with me was a mascara, which I really did not need since I only a few weeks ago found myself at the Dior counter buying a Diorshow offer including the Iconic mascara (which I love) and a mini eye shadow palette with five colors. The mascara I could not resist buying today was also a special offer this time by Estée Lauder and it included their “Sumptuous, Bold Volume Lifting Mascara”, a “Lash Primer Plus” and a small bottle of “Gentle Eye Makeup Remover”. None of the products are full sized but since I haven’t tried them before and the price was great that does not really matter. So, back to my logic, I convinced myself it was ok to buy another mascara even though I have the “Iconic” one and one from Body Shop called “Divide and Multiply” (which I really haven’t tried enough to say whether it’s any good) is that the Estée Lauder one is for volume and I don’t really have one for volume.

A few days back I finally received the UK order with Dermalogica products, I really shouldn’t say finally because the wait only lasted about a week but I really hate waiting for my orders. Anyway I started using it on Monday and my skin feels great, I think I have a “glow”. Probably some of it is from the fact that I’m no longer a smoker, which seems to do wonders for my whole body. I guess that really isn’t a surprise to anyone but still I never thought the positive results would start showing so soon. The only downside is that initially I started breaking out with pimples all over my chin, cheeks and most surprisingly my neck. Well, the acne is starting to disappear now and so is my usually so visible veins and the darkness around my eyes. After a bit over three weeks without cigarettes I feel great and according to me I also look great. I’ll get back to you on how the Dermalogica products are working for me.

About a week ago I went to the Freeport outlet and one of the better deals I got was some Trind Nail Repair products. For some time I’ve been using their natural nail repair, which I had to re-buy a few weeks ago. I really love the product and the strength it gives my nails but there is plenty in the bottom of the bottle which isn’t usable and just clumps together. It feels like a waist throwing it away but there is really no way of using it. Anyway, at the outlet I found a great offer which really gave me three products for the price of one or maybe even less?! So I ended up buying one bottle of matt and two bottles of colored nail repairs. It isn’t really necessary to have all of those varieties but it’s not like I won’t use them so it wasn’t a waste either.
